Can heavens declare God’s glory?

True understanding of the Science behind a phenomenon adds to its beauty and also points to a higher intelligence which as humans it is harder to fathom. This becomes extremely fascinating and a lovely object of contemplation and points us to the intelligence behind the Creation and God the Creator.

Above our house, August 23rd 2015 just after mid night between 3.00-4.00 a.m

I wanted to see Northern lights at least for the last five years and drove to many places in vain. The colours in the aurora seem to be a mystery to an ordinary man, but still people travel thousands of miles to see the brilliant natural light which comes in the Earth’s atmosphere. Finally in August this year God gave me this blessed opportunity to see that at least five times from my own house through the glass window. When I saw the above in front of my eyes above my house, this August, and the vastness of the Universe, I asked a question to myself, where do I fit in? Words of Psalmist proclaim that, “When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him”? Psa: 8:3-4.

Science behind Aurora Borealis or Northern lights.
Our sun is 93 million miles away. But its effects extend far beyond its visible surface. Great storms on the sun send gusts of charged solar particles hurtling across space. If Earth is in the path of the particle stream, our planet’s magnetic field and atmosphere react.
When the charged particles from the sun strike atoms and molecules in Earth’s atmosphere, theyexcite those atoms, causing them to light up.
What does it mean for an atom to be excited? Atoms consist of a central nucleus and a surrounding cloud of electrons encircling the nucleus in an orbit. When charged particles from the sun strike atoms in Earth’s atmosphere, electrons move to higher-energy orbits, further away from the nucleus. Then when an electron moves back to a lower-energy orbit, it releases a particle of light or photon.
What happens in an aurora is similar to what happens in the neon lights we see on many business signs. Electricity is used to excite the atoms in the neon gas within the glass tubes of a neon sign. That’s why these signs give off their brilliant colors. The aurora works on the same principle – but at a far more vast scale.

Double rainbow in front of my house, August 20th at 8.12 pm

The two rays exiting at the lowest point in the drop — the topmost two rays entering the drop — are nearly parallel to each other, whereas all the other rays have significantly different directions.  By a curious quirk of geometry and optics, we have an entire group of rays (clustered around roughly 42.5°) that are all going in the same direction.  More rays equals more light intensity, and we therefore have an unusually bright “beam” of light leaving the droplet at those special angles.  These collection of parallel rays form the rainbow that we see.

Psalm 19 declares: The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun, Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race. His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.  The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.  More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.  Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward. Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults. Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.  Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.

We can continue pondering with the question in our hearts more than once, “why the Universe does has to be so enormous, beyond our comprehension”. Scientists can continue to discern how God did it, many can revel in the beauty of the incomprehensible creation, and come to the conclusion that there should be a Master designer, with unfathomable wisdom, knowledge and intelligence. Time and again we can come to the conclusion that as intelligent species of all the other species created, we are uniquely created because we ask this question and sometimes ponder in our hearts. “When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained”; Psa: 8:3, we come to the humble adoration that Thou art an awesome God.

The fact we ask this question often gives us hints and points us to that creative intelligence which lies behind this Universe.  “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them”; Gen 1:27, undoubtedly affirms that God the Creator has endowed mankind with creativity in His own image. Mankind has that analytical capacity to reason unlike the other created species, and since we are created in His own image, we have the ability to research, ability to imagine, the ability to discover even many fascinating details about the nature and we can even plunge into research about the origin of the Universe.

Being a former Chemistry lecturer, I can well fathom that our Universe is made up of different things, atoms, dark matter, dark energy, and we will not be here without atoms, and we are in need of oxygen, carbon which becomes the basis of Organic Chemistry. Science has discovered the reason for the auroa, even the colours in the aurora, and did clarify some of the myths and imaginations as fire bridges, gods, dancing ghosts and points us to the Creator God Who is wisdom and majesty, and power, Who is unfathomably Omniscient, Omnipresent, and Omnipotent.
Scriptural cross references to support the above are; Rom: 1:19-20; Gen 1:6-7; 14; Psa:8; Psa:50:6; Psa:89:5; Psa:97:6; Psa:145:10; Jer: 31:35.
