Light in the Darkness- Part4

Light in the Darkness- Part4

The Ascension

After 40 days, of his resurrection Jesus ascended into heaven. The  Ascension is a unique part of Christ that further displayed the supremacy and the Godhood. He died and he was resurrected physically, ascended into heave; Acts 1.1-12.

Strong's Greek: 354. ἀνάληψις (analémpsis) -- Ascension, taking up

Strong’s Greek 354, ἀνάλημψις, though occurring only in Luke 9:51, anchors a sweeping biblical portrait: the ascension of Jesus Christ completes His saving work, inaugurates His heavenly …[1]

He was enveloped in shekinah glory of God and carried to heaven where he now sits at the right hand of God the Father; to the throne of God; Mk. 16. 19.

Jesus was not only worshipped by the people, the disciples, but also worshipped by the angels. Angels were assuring Jesus into heaven, and this tells us that He has authority over the angels. Jesus ascended in to the Shakinah glory of God in heave. This is a very glorious thing to think about and  remember.

The Shekinah Glory

Now when Solomon had finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord filled the house.  And the priests could not enter the house of the Lord because the glory of the Lord filled the Lords house. All the sons of Israel, seeing the fire come down and the glory of the Lord upon the house, bowed down on the pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave praise to the Lord, saying, “Certainly He is good, certainly His faithfulness is everlasting;

2 Chro. 7: 1-3.

Why is the ascension so important?

Key things to remember:

Jesus takes his rightful place; sitting at the right hand of God the Father, and he is Godhood.

No longer emptied himself; Phil. 2. We are not saying that He did not surrender any of the attributes of God. But Jesus offered some of the exercises in order to be fully man.

Example: Omnipresence: he was not with all people all the time; the physical impossibility of being a human. But God is Omnipresent.

It demonstrates Jesus’ sovereignty: Jesus is now over all the created things. If we belong to Him, everything we go through, is for God’s glory. The chief end of man is to glorify God, and worship HIM for ever.

It seals our hope in Him: Jesus is reigning Supreme, where we all can go to Him. Jesus is interceding for us, sitting at the right hand of God the Father now. Can we picture this? Jesus the High Preist (Ref. Hebrews: 4. 14-16) interceding for you and me?

Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.  For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need; Heb. 4: 14-16.

To the ancient Greeks, the primary attribute of God was apatheia, the essential inability to feel anything at all. Jesus isn’t like that. He knows and He feels what we go through. The ancient Greek word translated sympathize literally means “to suffer along with.”[2]

Jesus knows what it is like to be tempted and to battle against sin, though He was never stained by sin. “His sinlessness was, at least in part, an earned sinlessness as he gained victory after victory in the constant battle with temptation that life in this world entails.” (Morris)

“But listen to me; do not imagine that if the Lord Jesus had sinned he would have been any more tender toward you; for sin is always of a hardening nature. If the Christ of God could have sinned, he would have lost the perfection of his sympathetic nature.” (Spurgeon)

He is our Advocate. We fallen sinners, because of the work of Christ on the cross, when the Father see us on the day of Judgment, He sees the ascended Christ in our place…this indeed gives me goosebumps! Jesus is standing up for us in the gap; as a way to the Father.

Boldly does not mean proudly, arrogantly, or with presumption. Boldly means we may come constantly; we may come without reservation; we can come freely, without fancy words; we can come with confidence; we should come with persistence.

Jesus became the head of the church because of his ascension, and that is his rightful place. All believers play a different part, as members of the body, which are many and different. But only one head and that is Jesus Christ; and dictates and guides how the body of believers move. He is Supreme and Unique in all of His ways!

Jesus in glory, but also his human nature is exalted. His ascension took place in his bodily form with all the pierced marks. He is above, all things and is able to stand in the gap. Please do not miss this.

Exaltation

After the ascension, Jesus became exalted. Jesus received the former glory once again it was restored. This is applied to all who receives Jesus. What Adam and Eve lost in the Garden, because of the Original Sin, (Peccatum Originale).. and its effects on humanity. This will be restored.

In other words, although Jesus was God inwardly, while still maintaining his humanity, Jesus now was clearly God at an outward level. He was given various titles after the ascension, and his glorious exaltation. As Lord; Acts 2: 36; Saviour; Acts. 5: 31; Head of the Church; Ephe. 1: 21.

What do we understand by Jesus as Lord?

This means whatever little control we relinquish, we have to give it to Jesus, because He is our Lord, and He owns it all. He is in charge of us. John's attitude is a type of Christ's own humility, as Jesus later exemplifies in His sacrificial death. The decrease of John and the increase of Jesus must be applied in our lives.

He must increase, but I must decrease; Jn. 3: 30.

As Christians, we have to crawl upon the altar daily, and say “I surrender, please take over today. May this day be for your glory, and You my Lord, who owns it all. My time, my talents, my work, my heart, my friends, my family, my thought process, my hopes, and my vision, my possessions and all in all”.

For pride is spiritual cancer: it eats up the very possibility of love, or contentment, or even common sense. A proud man is always looking down on things and people; and, of course, as long as you are looking down, you cannot see something that is above you. C. S. Lewis.

As Jesus as Lord of our lives, we have larger hope and larger vision, possibly we do not fully comprehend. Letting Jesus taking charge of our lives is wiser. He is all in all our authority. Stop pretending that Jesus is just a Saviour! In the Book of Acts we are receiving the affirmation for this. This proves the exaltation of Christ.

Jesus is the only Person who can forgive our sins; because He paid the penalty for our sins; and exalted. Exalted  Christ  is sufficient to save; to guide and to redeem.

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me; Jn. 14: 6.

Light in the Darkness- Part 3

Light in the Darkness- Part 3

Uniqueness of Christ (Creator)

God created everything by His word. Word is logos. In the first creation, ‘darkness was upon the face of the deep’ Gen. 1: 2.  God called light into being, so the new creation involves the banishing of spiritual darkness by the light which shines through His Word.

And God said, Let there be light: and there was light; Gen. 1: 3.

Most of the days of creation involve some kind of dividing, some way of making a distinction between one thing and another.  Light is divided from darkness day 1, Gen. 1: 4.

Strong's Hebrew: 1254. בָּרָא (bara') -- Create, shape, form

“Bara” opens Scripture: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). The verb appears three times in Genesis 1 (verses 1, 21, 27), marking pivotal creative …[1]

Strong's Greek: 2939. κτίστης (ktistés) -- Creator - Bible Hub

Κτίστης names God as the One who brings things into being that did not previously exist. Not only the origin of matter but the continuing ground of existence is implied. The term therefore …[2]

“ Jesus alone is identified as the Creator-covenant Lord in all of His actions, Character, and work”[3]

Books of the Bible, Hebrews, Romans, Revelation affirm that Christ is the Co- Creator with God. He is the Creator; hypostatic union with God, and He is completely unique with authority ever present or in the future!

Consider the Universe: its complexity; the solar system, the atmosphere and the hydrosphere, life, the first man and woman and the marriage, Good and evil; formation of languages, government, culture, nations, and religions. Where do we find the origin?

Now the foundations of the doctrines of: Sin, the Fall, redemption, justification, Promised Messiah, the personality and the personhood of God; and the Kingdom of God. Where do we find the origin and the information?

Col.1; Jn. 1:1-3, affirms that all things were created by Jesus and through Jesus at His authority. Everything in the universe exists to bring glory to Jesus. Nothing in the universe can be understood completely apart from Him. Sounds like a crazy concept!!! Any other belief system does not have a Creator of the Universe.

Jesus transcends time, and space, and He existed when nothing else was yet created. So He is very qualified to be the Creator.

Fulfillment fo the prophecies:

Jesus fulfilled 300 prophecies which were written long before His birth that would describe him, his ministry and the work he would do. According to the law of scientific mathematical probability, there is only one chance in many trillions, that a man would be born and fulfill all the 340 over prophecies written about His coming as a baby; that is his first coming.

Deuteronomy tells us that the qualification of a prophet would be that all the prophecies must come true. Even if one of the prophecy is not fulfilled that prophet must be put to death.

And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he hath spoken to turn you away from the Lord your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, to thrust thee out of the way which the Lord thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt thou put the evil away from the midst of thee; Deut 13: 5.

Jesus also told us many prophecies which are yet to be fulfilled before His second coming. He was the prophesied Christ in the Old Testament.

Think about this!

What are the odds of one of us strike by lightning? Almost nil right?(1 in 2 million…an estimate). I remember an incident, where on a rainy day, Joshua/husband was closing the door, and the door was hit by lightning, just on the other side of the door.  Thank you God; and He indeed watches over us!

Mic. 5: 2; born in Bethlehem. …probability of fulfillment? David was also born there but his birth and reign were different. The King of Kings was born there. Jesus was not born in a highly esteemed place of honour, but in a humble and lowly place. Born in a manger.

His immaculate conception marks a huge point! (Hypostatic Union). Our brains cannot compute this adequately. This signals something very special and very astonishing. In our fallenness, and as mortal beings, we keep wondering about this mystery of mysteries!!

Jesus was humble; Phi. 2: 5-7; Obedient; Jn. 4:34; life of prayer; Lk. 6:12; life revealed the Father; Jn. 14. 8-11; sinless; 1 Pet. 2: 22. All these qualities should be admired by a believer to imitate him in our lives. Jesus wanted the will of the Father to be done in His life. He was fully human as well.

We can clearly see the deity side of Jesus through the miracles, claims, and works he has performed, but what makes Jesus so unique was that he is fully human as well.

Think about these prophesies fulfilled: Mal. 3:1. Forerunner …..probability of fulfillment?; Zac. 11:13. 30 pieces of silver to buy a potter’s field…..; Many other prophecies, Innocent but silent on trial; Psa. 22: 16; Jesus crucified;  70 A.D The Temple was destroyed.

As Christians, we believe that Jesus is the One and Only Person who is capable of fulfilling all these prophecies.

Miracles/ Jesus’ earthly life

Jesus turned water into wine; Jn. 2: 1-11: impossible miracle!; Jesus calm the water and the waves, the storm; Mk. 4. God’s word has ultimate authority. Wind and the waves obeyed Jesus. He demonstrated the love, the power, the authority, with tremendous grace. Jesus walked on water; Mt. 14…He was standing on it. And… is not the frozen water!

He performed many other miracles like: sight to men, gave food when there was no food; and raised Lazarus.

He was the Messiah….He was praying always, in the Garden of Gethsemane; Lk. 22. He did miracles, till to the end and showed His love and mercy to humanity.  Jesus even said, if you know me, you have known the Father. His earthly life was marked without sin, and he was marked as one without deceit.

Our lives are marked by sin. Clutches of Sin reigns in us: what we do not want to think and speak we do.  Like a grip  at least sometimes in our thought process. Don’t we all agree to this? But, JESUS was unable to sin, and is very unique.

“Lord, break the chains that hold me to myself; free me to be Your happy slave—that is, to be the happy foot washer of anyone today… Lord, deliver me from the urge to open my mouth when I should shut it. Give me the wisdom to keep silent where silence is wise. Remind me that not everything needs to be said, and that there are very few things that need to be said by me.” -Elisabeth Elliot.

Light in the Darkness-Part 2

Light in the Darkness-Part 2

Christ’s Resurrection

Another significant truth in Christ’s Resurrection. Did Jesus stayed on the cross? The answer is NO! If resurrection did not occur nothing else matters. Our faith journey in this planet earth starts and ends on this resurrection.

Resurrection or anastasis is the concept of coming back to life after deathReincarnation is a similar process hypothesized by other religions involving the same person or deity returning to another body. The disappearance of a body is another similar but distinct belief in some religions.[1]

Strong's Greek: 386. ἀνάστασις (anastasis) -- Resurrection

Christ's physical resurrection is the foundation of Christianity, which also guarantees the future resurrection of all believers (see Jn 6:39,40,44). [386 /anástasis ("resurrection") refers to the …[2]

     The death on the cross and the resurrection was reliable based on the historical records. Jesus defeated the grave, and came alive victorious. Jesus conquered death and hell and hold the keys to hell and death;

And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter; Rev.1: 17-19.

Resurrection is not possible if not He is God and man, the hypostatic union we had been talking about. We know from records in the Gospels, and the Acts of the Apostles, there are some other resurrections. What separates Jesus’ resurrection from other resurrections like Lazarus?

Jesus’ resurrection is unique

Unlike others who were brought back to life (Gospels recorded), died again. Jesus never died again, and ascended into heaven.

Jesus stayed alive. This is because Jesus ascended into heaven. Jesus’ resurrection finalized the victory over hell, sin and death.

Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death; Rev. 1: 18.

The three years John spent with Jesus on this earth did not really prepare him to see Jesus in His heavenly glory; and he fell. To John’s surprise, at this moment, he knew that was a miracle Jesus could shield His glory and authority while He walked this earth with them. Jesus holds the keys of Hades and of Death. We can trust that Jesus never lets the devil borrow the keys.

“Blessed position! Does the death alarm you? We are never so much alive as when we are dead at his feet.” “It matters not what aileth us if we lie at Jesus’ feet. Better be dead there than alive anywhere else.” (Spurgeon)

 Jesus’s resurrection secures the beleivers:

Eventual resurrection of the body and current spiritual resurrection.

We had to be spiritually resurrected, in this world: this means that our inner dead person (Spirit/Soul) has to be revived in Christ and in His spirit, and stay alive all the time ready to meet the Lord.

Matthew 27:65-66 reminds us that there was a guard set round the tomb. The women were not strong enough to roll the stone away. The disciples  were NOT brave enough. They were in fear and could not overcome the armed guards. No one else would have wanted to roll away the stone. Matthew 28:2 tells us that it was an angel who rolled it away. It is the Divine thing organized from heaven above.

Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you; 2 Cori. 2: 4: 14.

This means we are made as new creation in Christ Jesus. The old has gone and the new has come. We not only have spiritual resurrection now, but one day we will have bodily resurrection with Him, and live for ever.

And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead: Rom. 1:4.

Jesus’ resurrection displayed His mighty claims to be God. If Jesus is not alive today, we Christians are believing a lie, and we had to be pitied among all people!

Everything, our faith journey hinges on the resurrection of Christ. This points to time and time again the History. Resurrection is the most significant part of all the Doctrine of Christ. If it is true all the claims of the Bible, and the words of Jesus are true.

“Our religion is not based upon opinions, but upon facts. We hear persons sometimes saying, ‘Those are your views, and these are ours.’ Whatever your ‘views’ may be, is a small matter; what are the facts of the case?” (Spurgeon)

The fact that Jesus rose again the third day is part of the gospel. Jesus was a unique case. He did not or will not rise at some “general” resurrection of the dead. Instead He rose the third day after His death. This also demonstrates Jesus’ credibility, because He proclaimed He would rise three days after His death (Matthew 16:2117:2320:19).[3]

Light in the Darkness- Part 1

Light in the Darkness

Supremacy of Christ

                                                                              Part 1

Quintessential passages for the Doctrine of Christ are: Col. 1: 15-17;  Matt. 16: 13-16; Jn.1:1.

Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:  For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist; Col. 1: 15-17.

Bishop Lightfoot, a noted Greek scholar, on the use of both eikon (image) and prototokos (firstborn): “As the Person of Christ was the Divine response alike to the philosophical questionings of the Alexandrian Jew and to the patriotic hopes of the Palestinian, these two currents of thought meet in the term prototokos as applied to our Lord, who is both the true Logos and the true Messiah.” (Lightfoot)[1]

Think about this! (Rough estimates)

Comets have vapor trails up to 10,000 miles long; and if we could capture all that vapor, and put it in a bottle, the amount of vapor actually present in the bottle would take up less than a cubic inch of space.

Saturn’s rings are around 500,000 miles in circumference and almost  a foot in thickness.  If the sun were the size of a beachball and put on top of the Empire State Building, the nearest group of stars would be as far away as Australia is to the Empire State Building.

There are more insects in one square mile of rural land than there are human beings on the entire earth.

Look at the number of stars in the sky; can we count them? Like a diamond in the ring, it was over the child King, 2000 years ago in Bethlehem. Those who believe in Him, are His delight, and worth more than this; and He holds us in His hands.

And now the script below about human:

A single human chromosome contains twenty billion bits of information. How much information is that? If written in ordinary books, in ordinary language, it would take about four thousand volumes. According to Greek scholar A.T. Robertson, all things were created has the idea of “stand created” or “remain created.” Robertson adds: “The permanence of the universe rests, then, on Christ far more than on gravity. It is a Christ-centric universe.”[2]

Gospels affirm this! That Christ is the Supreme Being!

Greek word

Strong's Greek: 5242. ὑπερέχω (huperechó) -- To surpass, to …

From huper and echo; to hold oneself above, i.e. (figuratively) to excel; participle (as adjective, or neuter as noun) superior, superiority -- better, excellency, higher, pass, supreme.[3]

SUPREME Definition & Meaning - Merriam-Webster

The meaning of SUPREME is highest in rank or authority; especially : in a position of unquestioned authority, dominance, or influence. How to use supreme in a sentence.[4]

Both God and Man

Hypostatic Union: is the unique combination  of true humanity and undiminished deity that has existed since the incarnation. The most important pieces and valuable for the Doctrine of Christ.

There are 2 natures (Divine and man). This existed without the loss of separate identities, and confusion. They were inseparably united without transfer of attributes. Although Jesus Christ has the two distinct natures of deity, and humanity, Christ is One Person.

The effect of one gene, the epistatic gene, is superimposed on the effect of another, the hypostatic gene, either by obscuring the phenotypic effect of the hypostatic gene, or by …[5]

Jesus was fully God and fully man.

Kenosis:

What does kenosis mean in Christian theology? - Bible Hub

What does kenosis mean in Christian theology? The term “kenosis” comes from the Greek word κένωσις (kenōsis), which literally means “emptying.” This concept appears in Philippians 2:7, and in many other passages.

But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

Phil. 2: 7.

Some develop the kenotic theory of the incarnation to the point where they insist that Jesus divested Himself of many of the attributes of deity – such as omniscience, omnipotence, omnipresence, and even suffered the elimination of His own divine self-consciousness. Yet Jesus did not (and could not) become “less God” in the incarnation. No deity was subtracted (though Jesus did renounce some of the privileges of deity); rather humanity was added to His nature.[6]

Atonement and substitution

Pivotal Piece: Jesus was the substitutionary sacrifice for the sins of humanity, for each one of us. His holy wrath against the sinners and sins  are satisfied, and justified and mercy triumphed over justice. God’s wrath is heavy and no human being can deal with that. So, Christ the God man, because of great love did this on the cross for you and me! He died in our place; Can anyone imagine this?

When we accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour we have, salvation, eternal life, and we become His heir as the adopted ones. This is the huge privilege, and is free and available to all. But those who come to Him only; if we come to Him, He will not despise us. We are His true delight. Can we wrap our mind around this?

This privilege is priceless, cannot be compared with the discomforts we go through: the trials, the storms, the valley experiences, the losses, and pain and much more! This irreplaceable, exquisite, immeasurable worth  has to be extremely highly valued, treasured as very precious, cherished, rare, and must be prized and held dear!

We should be thanking Jesus Christ, everyday for this substitutionary sacrifice in our place!
