Night Sky announces God’s
glory
The
heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork; The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament shows His handiwork.
Day unto day utters speech,
And night unto night reveals knowledge.
There is no speech nor language
Where their voice is not heard.
Their line has gone out through all the earth,
And their words to the end of the world; Psa.
19: 1-4.
This Psalter reflects, with beauty and splendor in this Hebrew poetry.
C.S. Lewis wrote, ‘I take this to be the greatest poem in the Psalter and one of the greatest lyrics in the world.’”
Strong's Hebrew: 7549. רָקִ֫יעַ (raqia) -- Expanse, Firmament
The Hebrew noun רָקִיעַ refers to the divinely
fashioned “expanse” or “firmament” that stretches above the earth. Scripture presents it as a real, God-ordered structure
that both reveals His …[1]
“Firmament” is a poetic way of referring to the heavens or
the sky, or an expanse above the earth. Psalmist declares and writes it was divinely fashioned, handiwork of God. The day sky and the night sky
speak to us, differently. They reveal to humanity the knowledge about the
glory, wisdom, and creative greatness of the orderly structure of God.
“This is one of the central Old Testament passages on the
doctrine of creation. It teaches that the physical fabric of creation is a
direct artifact of the Creator.” (Motyer)
Utters speech: “This is stronger in the Hebrew
text than it appears to be in English, for the image is literally of a gushing
spring that copiously pours forth sweet, refreshing waters of revelation.”
(Boice)
Sometimes when
flying, I had the privilege of a little closer look at the night sky above. Just
by looking at the multitude of stars in the dark sky alone makes me think of
the creation and the Creator!
The blue sky, the glory of the sun and clouds,
the beauty of sunrises and sunsets, the spectrum of colours of the sky
at different seasons, Aurora Borealis, shooting stars, their size, awe and the grandeur of it, makes one to look up enjoy and enjoy the show.
God’s
engineering of something out of nothing, which works together; the artistry and
the beauty, makes one think about The
Creator behind this wonderfully crafted tapestry. Above all, something to
think about God’s goodness and kindness, and love, in creating something for us all to look
up and delight at- His Glorious Design!
Strong's Greek: 1108. γνῶσις (gnósis) -- Knowledge - Bible Hub
From ginosko; knowing (the act), i.e. (by
implication) knowledge -- knowledge, science.[2]
Think of a sleepless night, as we
stand near the window and looking up the night sky reminiscing. Quiet night
thoughts, evoke a sense of timeless expression of yearning and introspection, which
can resonate with longing and wonder even if there is total silence. The night sky can publish God’s glory and the
celestial stars around our globe can proclaim His majesty. Heavens above
preaches to us… and the message is being delivered to us day unto day and
night unto night. God’s glory is declared like an endless unbroken chain,
knitted and they never stop!
“Knowledge is well matched with night, since without the night skies man would have
known, until recently, nothing but an empty universe.” (Kidner)
“Day bids us labour, night reminds us to prepare for our last home; day bids us work for God, and night invites us to rest in him; day bids us look for endless day, and night warns us to escape from everlasting night.” (Spurgeon)
Have you ever been in an utter darkness? Total cutoff from everything? If God did not place the stars in the night sky, the total blackness of night would have communicated powerfully to all humanity differently. Both for ancient and modern, young and old it would possibly communicate, “There is nothing and no one out there.”
Recent scientific discoveries, including neuroscience points more towards the timeless truth scripted in the pages of the Bible, which God alone knows from the time of dawn. Scientific secrets which are being revealed progressively were found to have Divine Origin.
God’s design of our brains affirms biblical truths while providing practical pathways for emotional and spiritual growth. Faith Shapes Our Neural Pathways. The concept of neuroplasticity – our brain’s ability to form new neural connections throughout life. As we delve deeper into understanding the human brain, we discover remarkable parallels between biblical wisdom and scientific discoveries about mental health and emotional well-being.[3]
From God’s position enthroned high above the earth, the heavenly ideas, and the scenes are directed over us, to reason intelligibly with wisdom from above to acknowledge Him.
One galaxy, named
Virgo has 5 trillion stars on its own! This immensity and these gigantic
numbers serve to dwarf us as we consider we inhabit one planet1/100th the size
of our sun.[4]
He telleth the number of the stars; he
calleth them all by their names. Great is our
Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite; Psa. 145: 4-5.
As we begin to understand His sovereign rulership, greatness of His might, who sets each heavenly body in their place by His sovereign decree, this alone should humble us. This speaks about our Creator who longs to have a relationship with man who is the apex of all His creations! If this God, makes a promise, who knows us by our name this indeed will surely come to pass!
For Thought: Astronomers, and other humans who are interested in astronomy and galaxy must be still puzzling to find the number stars, and other heavenly bodies already there. Long ago, God had already numbered, measured its sizes, set them in motion, and ordained their rotations and revolutions individually. He knew them by their name. They are all on their course individually and collectively.
Science plays a critical role in understanding the natural world, revealing the order, precision, and elegance which points to the Creator, The Infinite intelligence Designer with ultimate power.
Scientists generally find joy discovering the complexities
of God’s creation and how superbly in
order He operated and express their sentiment with excitement.
“The significance and joy in my science comes in the occasional moments of discovering something new and saying to myself, ‘So that’s how God did it!’” Henry Schaefer, a professor of chemistry.
That Special Star announced the
birth of Christ, who delivers us from this Terrible Tragedy of Sin and Death-
still proclaims!
