Neuroscience behind Honesty.....

Neuroscience behind Honesty....

The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them; Prov. 11: 3.

Naturally humans have a tendency to trust another person and we our proclivity to be honest seem to be the fundamental human nature. Unless we meet big liars as part of our life, generally we tend to trust the word of a coworker, sibling, lover, or neighbor. Most people wanted to be honest in their wordings and we expect others to do the same.

Machiavellian approaches like manipulation, exploitation, and deception generally tend to become personally more profitable temporarily. We selectively choose to cooperate only with people who are good, reliable, and trustworthy partners. When we are honest and trustworthy, the word gets around; and when people are cheats and liars, the news travel even faster.

Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight; Prov. 12: 22.

Strong's Greek: 225. ἀλήθεια (alétheia) -- Truth - Bible Hub

ἀλήθεια, (ας, ἡ (ἀληθής) (from Homer down), verity, truth. I. objectively;[i]

Strong's Hebrew: 3653a. ken -- right, veritable, honest - Bible Hub

ken: right, veritable, honest Transliteration: ken Definition: right, veritable, honest NAS Exhaustive Concordance Word Origin from kun Definition right, veritable, honest NASB Translation false* (1), …[ii]

The God of truth loves the truth and regards the lips that spread lies as offensive, an abomination and abhorrent. When we deal truthfully we are creatures of His delight. The same God who regards lies as an abomination takes delight in those who value and speak the truth. Wisdom literature the Book of Proverbs, points to us plainly, stop lying and start telling the truth.

We speak of honesty as a virtue—something moral, upright, or ethical. But what if it’s more than that? What if telling the truth is biological restoration? Not just noble… but necessary? Because just as lies fracture the psyche, truth fuses it back together. The Body is Wired for Truth. Neuroscience reveals that congruence—alignment between our inner experience and outer expression—regulates the nervous system. When we speak truthfully: The prefrontal cortex relaxes; there is no need to inhibit or rehearse. The amygdala calms; there is no threat in coherence. The vagus nerve activates; signaling safety, not survival. The heart rate stabilizes, and the breath deepens. This is not just mental peace, but a physiological alignment.[iii]

Neuroscience studies have shown repeatedly, when we focus on good, our brains literally rewires itself  to look for more good. This is called neuroplasticity, and this is not only motivation but indeed science connected about our nervous system.

The Bible emphasizes the importance of honesty as the fundamental virtue, highlighting God values  truthfulness and integrity in all of our actions and words.

Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body; Ephes. 4:25.

A lying tongue clearly stands out as a serious offense against divine principles. By following honesty as virtue, we strengthen the community, recognizing we are all connected as one body in Christ. The new man tells the truth. The motive for doing this is because we are members of one another, therefore there is no place for lying.

“The way we live ought to manifest the truth of what we believe. A messy life speaks of a messy and incoherent faith.” Elisabeth Elliot.

Imagine this example: When we accidently touch something very hot burning our hand, and telling our brain that is cool!? Does this make sense? Is it the truth we are telling our brain? Does not telling the truth very important? Do we not know that the members of our body are mysteriously wired and we are members of each other?

Neuroscience is pointing and relating to, For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he, Proverbs 23:7a; with biological information. Our thoughts are generating chemicals in our brain.

In our body is the brain and it has the size of 2 fists. Brain is the biggest chemical factory, and it creates chemicals, releasing every day when we think! From the time we are created fearfully and wonderfully in our mother’s womb, and the reins are being formed, it is capturing chemicals. Every thought becomes a memory!

As new creations through Christ, we are called to live lives characterized by truth. Speaking the truth reflects our understanding of God’s grace in our lives. Living truthfully brings peace and safety as we trust in the Lord’s protection. Avoiding lies allows us to experience a fulfilling life filled with goodness. When we speak truth from our heart, we exemplify God’s character.

The Truth is:

“ We cannot do anything outside of Him;” Elisabeth Elliot.

Anxious Mind

Anxious Mind

Strong's Greek: 3309. μεριμνάω (merimnaó) -- To be anxious, to …

Original Word: μεριμνάω Part of Speech: Verb Transliteration: merimnaó Pronunciation: mer-im-NAH-oh Phonetic Spelling: (mer-im-nah'-o) Definition: To be anxious, to worry, to care for [i]

An anxious heart cannot hear the whisper of the Holy Spirit. We believers are endowed with a huge privilege of Jesus carrying our burden with us; and HE asked us not to worry. In dire situations too, when things go out of control, we have a safe anchor of Hope in Christ. We do not have to think of the worst scenario because Christ is in control, of our lives!

Stress and anxiety are deeply ingrained parts of the human experience. They are not merely emotional states but complex biological processes that involve intricate interactions between the brain, body, and environment. When a person feels stressed or anxious, their brain undergoes a series of chemical, electrical, and structural changes designed to help them respond to perceived threats or challenges. These responses evolved as survival mechanisms, enabling early humans to react quickly to danger. However, in the modern world, chronic stress and persistent anxiety can overload these systems, leading to significant effects on both mental and physical health.[ii]

Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?  Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Matt. 6: 25-34.

When fear or anxiety are experienced too intensely or become pervasive—manifesting even in benign contexts—they can be debilitating. Anxiety disorders encompass an extended family of closely related diagnoses, from specific phobias and social anxiety to panic and post-traumatic stress.[iii]

“These three inquiries engross the whole attention of those who are living without God in the world. The belly and back of a worldling are his compound god; and these he worships in the lust of the flesh, in the lust of the eye, and in the pride of life.” (Clarke)

When anxiety fills the room, faith is pushed to a corner. Spirit of God guides us steadily, but we keep looking for fear, and fight and flight mechanisms in life.  When one is in flight or fight mode, anxiety will be the byproduct. Peace is not found in having all the answers to our racing disturbed heart, but is found in trusting the One who gave us His promises!

For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light;

Matt. 11: 30.

“‘Come’; he drives none away; he calls them to himself. His favorite word is ‘Come.’ Not, go to Moses – ‘Come unto me.’ To Jesus himself we must come, by a personal trust. Not to doctrine, ordinance, nor ministry are we to come first; but to the personal Saviour.” (Spurgeon)

“You cannot say that Jesus Christ ever troubled his head about what he should eat, or what he should drink; his meat and his drink consisted in doing his Father’s will.” (Spurgeon)

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.  Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things; Phil, 4:6-8.

The Dividing Asunder of: Joints and Marrow

The Dividing Asunder of:

 Joints and Marrow

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart; Heb. 4: 12.

God wants us to be directed by His spirit and His word, not by the flesh, which is fallen, nor even by the soul which is fallen ever since the colossal tragedy in the Garden of Eden.

The writer of the Book of Hebrew is making a distinction between the joint and the marrow. The expression here is very poetical, and signifies the power of God’s word which can  penetrate to the inmost recesses of our spiritual being as a sword cuts through the joints and marrow of the body.

Joints and marrow are both essential components of the human body, playing important roles in maintaining overall health and functionality. Joints are the connections between bones that allow for movement and flexibility, while marrow is the soft, spongy tissue found inside bones that produces blood cells and stores fat. While joints are crucial for physical activity and mobility, marrow is vital for the production of blood cells and immune function. Both joints and marrow are integral to the body's overall well-being and must be properly cared for to ensure optimal health.[i]

Marrow | definition of marrow by Medical dictionary

There are two types of marrow, red and yellow. The former produces the blood cells; the latter, which is mainly formed of fatty tissue, …[ii]

Strong's Greek: 719. ἁρμός (harmos) -- Joint, connection

In antiquity the joint was understood as the hidden place where bone meets bone, the very point at which motion becomes possible …[iii]

Strong's Greek: 3452. μυελός (muelos) -- Marrow - Bible Hub

Ancient Near Eastern and Greco-Roman writers viewed marrow as the seat of strength and, in some medical texts, the factory of

[iv]

Joints and marrow are the deepest parts of our human anatomy/nature. They vary in structure and function, including hinge joints like the knee for bending and extending, and ball-and-socket joints like the shoulder for a wide range of movement. This distinction highlights the different roles they play in bodily functions and health.[v]

We have an “inner” and an “outer” nature (Ref. Gen. 2: 7; Cori. 4:16). The inner man is described by both the terms the spirit (Ref. Acts. 7: 59; Jn. 4:23-24); and the soul (Ref. 1 Pet. 2:11; Heb. 6:19). Neuroscience speaks about the nervous system and skeletal homeostasis, and the brain’s influence to bring skeletal homeostasis of the inner man and outer man.

The brain can influence skeletal homeostasis through modulation of the neuromolecules, extracellular vesicles, and brain-marrow neural circuit; conversely, the skeleton can influence the brain in its development, function, and pathology by physical exercise, massage therapy, and skeletal trauma.[vi]

The Word of God is marvelously revealing to the inner self. It pierces between the joints and marrow— and marrow is a thing not to be got at very readily. The Word of God gets at the very marrow of our manhood—it lays bare the secret thoughts of the soul; Spurgeon

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth; 3 Jn.1: 2.

The emphasis here is on completely: “The adjective (holoeleis), occurring only here in the New Testament, is a compound of holos, ‘whole, entire,’ and telos, ‘end.’ Its basic connotation is ‘wholly attaining the end, reaching the intended goal,’ hence has the force of no part being left unreached.” (Hiebert)

Behold this day the everlasting Gospel has Christ within it. He rides in it as in a chariot. He rides in it as, of old, Jehovah "did ride upon a cherub and did fly—yes, He did fly upon the wings of the wind." It is only because Jesus is not dead that the Word becomes living and effectual, "and sharper than any two-edged sword; Spurgeon.

Is not my word like as a fire? saith the Lord; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces? Jer. 23: 29.

Fire itself must be applied by an agent in order to produce its effects; and surely the hammer cannot break the rock in pieces, unless wielded by an able workman. And it is God’s Spirit alone that can thus apply it; for we find it frequently read and frequently spoken, without producing any salutary effects.” (Clarke)

What  the hammer cannot break, God’s word and His spirit has the power to break, and discern. Absolutely nothing can be “hidden” from God. The word of God discovers and exposes each of our condition, and even our brain-marrow neural circuit very precisely.

God saves our body as much as our spirit and soul. The body has a definite and important role in the whole plan of salvation, to be resurrected into a new body. To us God’s word is His voice; His love letter, and we hear and listen with awe!

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth; Jn. 1: 14.

“This sword divides between the joints and marrow, the most secret, close, and intimate parts of the body; this sword can cut off the lusts of the flesh as well as the lusts of the mind, and make men willing to undergo the sharpest operation for the mortifying of sin” Matthew Henry

Joints and marrow are the intimate parts of our body, and God sees it, as it is precisely, than a human surgeon. God’s word reaches us with surprising precision by the power of the Holy Spirit. Empowering the ministry of the word to work deeply in our soul; piercing the dividing asunder between our joints and marrow.

And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ; 1 Thess. 5: 23.

When we allow our flesh or the world to direct our thoughts, intentions and actions, it ends in spiritual ruin. God sees each one of us the way He sees Adam and Eve in their feeble hiding, robed themselves with fig leaves. Fig leaf aprons does not help us on the day of reckoning!
