Synopsis: Battlefield of the Mind

Synopsis: Battlefield of the Mind

Therefore, take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? Or What shall we drink? Or Wherewithal shall we be clothed? Matt. 6:31.

The enemy has a plan too. The plan to strike us, with his destination, and that is to take us with him, eternally separated from God, our Father in heaven! i.e.; (Eternal separation from God).

Carnal mind vs. earthly minded

Enemy comes against us with carnality; with our five senses: hearing, seeing, touching, speaking, smelling, and much more with our feelings. These are things that makes the human being fleshly and with this strategy the enemy will always win!

The enemy usually keeps on telling us the language of law and condemnation. Very little he speaks about grace and mercy, and the wrath on humanity which was already justified. He will try to make us blind, so we will not see what was done on our behalf on the Cross.

We have to remember specifically the main functions of the 3 cherubs.  Michael (Warrior), Gabriel (Gives good news) and Lucifer/custodian of God’s justice, who only understands  justice and condemnation.

Our God is God of grace and mercy. Mercy triumphs over justice at the cross of calvary.

Studies show that our thoughts for a day are around 6000. All the thoughts, conscious or unconscious we collected when we were conceived in our mother’s womb, comes to the surface. Thoughts can become a fertile ground for the enemy to fight. Fearful and anxious thoughts for tomorrow can be destructive as well, and toxic thoughts bring destruction. So, it is very important to bring them under the authority of Christ.

The best scientific estimate puts the number at roughly 6,200 thoughts per day. That figure comes from a 2020 study at Queen’s University in Canada, where researchers developed a method to detect when one thought ends and another begins by tracking transitions in brain activity. It’s far lower than the numbers you’ll find repeated across the internet, and understanding why reveals a lot about how thinking actually works.[i]

The combat is not against flesh and human powers and enemies, but against several ranks of devils, who have government and their exercise of power in this world, principalities and powers and rulers. They are vigorous and usurp power over all men who are ignorant of the Gospel and living in sin. It is written that,

We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places; Ephe. 6: 12

Paul did not say beleivers should enter into spiritual warfare. Rather he mentioned that, “we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities” and much more. We should not be ignorant of the fact that Christians are in the spiritual battle. We should not be fighting thoughts with thoughts, but with God’s word which is a powerful weapon against the inflation of fear, worry, stress and anxiety.

Example: Surgeons often say that between cases after they operate, should quickly change your pattern of thinking within 10 minutes and go back to the next case. This means within a short time the surgeon’s brain had to switch in the thinking pattern from the past case to the new case which he is going to operate.

At the same time, thoughts should not be buried as well, because it may resurface and awaken emotions. This is the reason, when someone is a counselor, special effort must be taken to listen carefully to the thoughts of the clients.

It is important to fill our minds with good things. We know the enemy’s future, and we should know the future of the children of God as well. Reframe our minds and from the fullness of our hearts let our mouth speak words of edification and good things.

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:  Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; Ephe. 6: 17-18.

Intrusive thoughts and ruminating thoughts, focusing on a loop of distressing thoughts without exploring the real solution to the problem, can happen if a person is anxious or depressed. Especially with bad thoughts, dendrites can grow, like a mulberry tree.

Neurotransmitter Release: Positive thoughts stimulate the release of dopamine, often referred to as the “feel-good” neurotransmitter, and serotonin, which helps regulate mood and emotional stability. Stress Reduction: Optimistic thinking reduces the production of cortisol, the primary stress hormone, leading to lower anxiety and improved overall health. Enhanced Cognitive Function: A positive mindset engages the prefrontal cortex, which is responsible for rational thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving.[ii]

From the above we allude that the brain is a dynamic organ which can adapt to our thoughts, experiences and emotions. When we engage in good thinking (God’s word), positive thinking, we activate the neural networks which are associated with optimism, emotional resilience, and problem-solving.
